SceptreNet was selected to deliver a site-wide blown fibre backbone solution at University Hospital Dorset, supporting the deployment of a new Data Centre (DC1 & DC2) and future-proofing the hospital’s IT infrastructure. The objective was to provide a flexible, high-capacity, and resilient fibre network capable of supporting critical clinical systems, voice, data, and building management infrastructure across the entire campus.
Our design team worked directly with the UHD IT department, ensuring every aspect of the installation — from containment, external ducts, and building entry points to redundancy and route diversity — was meticulously planned and executed.
SceptreNet designed and installed a state-of-the-art blown fibre network, using Prysmian OS2 single-mode and OM4 multimode fibre to provide the highest performance, scalability, and future-proofing:
Blown Fibre Infrastructure:
- New site-wide blown fibre ring connecting all major facilities
- 8 × 7-way Blown Fibre Legs – Route A
- 8 × 7-way Blown Fibre Legs – Route B
- 40 × 12-core OS2 Blown Fibre Links for long-distance, high-capacity connectivity
- 40 × 12-core OM4 Blown Fibre Links for high-speed internal networking
Supporting Infrastructure:
- 6 new midpoint blowing stations to ensure optimal fibre deployment and maintenance access
- New core communications cabinets providing secure, organised, and accessible infrastructure
- New voice infrastructure deployed across DC1 and DC2
Project Delivery:
- Full design consultancy with UHD IT department involvement to ensure compliance with specifications and operational requirements
- Detailed planning for all site entry points, ducting, and containment to maintain resilience and minimize disruption
- Delivered through UHD-approved procedures, maintaining hospital operations throughout the 12-month project
