Overview

SceptreNet was selected to deliver the IT Data infrastructure for the University of Bristol’s Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus (TQEC), a landmark project designed to support cutting-edge academic and research facilities. Drawing on our unrivalled Higher Education experience, our team worked seamlessly with long-term collaborators NG Bailey and Sir Robert McAlpine to ensure the project was delivered on time and to the highest standards.

The project required a robust, future-ready network to meet the needs of a modern university campus. To achieve this, SceptreNet installed a fully integrated IT infrastructure solution, incorporating Siemon CAT6a structured cabling systems alongside USystems (LEGRAND) and Cannon technologies, delivering reliability, scalability, and performance across all campus facilities, laboratories and teaching spaces.

Installation Highlights

Networks: Two independent networks – Specialist & Campus

Data Outlets: 9,000+ Cat6a F/FTP outlets

Backbone Fibre: 42 OS2 cables (48-core & 144-core)

Specialist Fibre: 50 OS2 & OM4 fibre cables

Interlink Fibre: 83 cables ranging from 24-core to 48-core OS2

Racks: 135 USystems data racks and 2 external Cannon racks

Data Centres: 3 data centres including VHAC containment systems

Active Cooling: 8 Cold Logik CL21 Active Fan Doors

Project Outcomes

The completed installation provides the University of Bristol with a resilient and high-performance IT network capable of supporting its advanced teaching, learning, and research facilities. The use of Siemon cabling systems ensured superior performance and future scalability, while the collaborative approach with NG Bailey and Sir Robert McAlpine enabled smooth coordination across all aspects of the project.
